Licences & Fees

Each year, there are a number of special hunting licences left over after the hunting draws. Eligible hunters can purchase these undersubscribed licences on a first-come, first-served basis starting in September.

Reserve and Buy Your Special Licence

To buy an undersubscribed special licence, you must first reserve the licence and then confirm your reservation has been approved. Once you have received approval you can buy your special licence.

1. You must reserve your special licence using the interactive voice response system:

1-900-451-3729 ($1.25 per minute)
Line opens at 8:15 a.m. on Wednesday, September 3, 2008
Line closes on Friday, December 19, 2008 at midnight

Have the following information ready when you call:

Your Wildlife Identification Number (WIN)
The WINs of up to three other hunters buying the same licence in the same WMU, area or season
The draw code and WMU or area/season code of the licence to be bought

Note:

Cell phones, payphones and calling cards cannot access the 1-900 line.
Cordless telephones are not recommended because of inconsistent transmission tones. Check with your long distance telephone service provider to ensure you have access to 1-900 lines.
The line is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

2. The day after reserving your licence, confirm your reservation has been approved on the AlbertaRELM system:

3. Once you confirm your licence has been authorized, you can purchase your licence at any private licence issuer:

Private Licence Issuers

A Visa or Mastercard number is not needed to reserve a licence. If you have questions about the 1-900 line, call 1-877-289-0999 toll free.

Important:

If you reserve a special licence your authorization will not be cancelled and it’s important that you buy your special licence.

Eligibility

Restrictions on eligibility and licence combinations are the same as in the regular hunting draws process. For example, if you were drawn for an Antlerless Mule Deer Special Licence, you cannot get another Antlerless Mule Deer Licence through the undersubscribed licence sale.

Non-resident (Canadian) hunters are eligible for only certain special licences. Non-resident Alien hunters are not eligible for these special licences.
You do not need to have applied in the draw to be eligible to buy an undersubscribed special licence.
Draw priorities are not affected if you buy an undersubscribed special licence.
Any person in possession of a valid WIN and in compliance with the above may purchase a special licence.
